The problem occurs (probably among others) on line 330 in ft_read_header. Explicitly specifying 'ctf_old' for dataformat and headerformat seems to work fine.

Well, we would need to record some data without meg-channels, which I think is an overkill for this bug. Acquiring a dataset in the MEG without specifying MEG channels to be recorded is unusual usage of the MEG system so I wouldn't spend too much time on reproducing and creating a fix. Particularly if specifying cfg.dataformat = 'ctf_old' works.
