consequently it does not store the provenance information correctly, and does not deal with input/output data the same way as other functions.

this function is a placeholder that should be filled with functionality based on input from Chieti. at the moment not even under development. I could do 2 thing: -remove it from svn -adjust the flow of the code so that it at least reflect the pre and postamble business according to current standards.
