At the MEG toolkit this resulted in the plotting becoming very slow (see bug 2101).
I now realize that it is also inconsistent with the design principles. As far as I know, no fieldtrip function uses cfg.event. It is not a cfg option, but rather "data". Considering that ft_preprocessing returns data.hdr, it would also make sense that events are in data.event.
