because it is inconsistent and confusing with subsequent fieldtrip functions where cfg.trials is being used. See e.g. bug 3296. It would be goot to start implementing ft_timelockanalysis from scratch, e.g. using ft_selectdata as the starting point. That would also allow nan-handling to be implemented.
