I decided to implement that in ft_neighbourselection already. It would greatly improve usability, reduce number of stupid mistakes number of variables the user has to specify, and should work reliably by now, since many other functions rely on ft_senstype(data) anyway!

it does not really work that easily, because ft_senstype returns names that are not necessarily layout-files still, might be a useful enhancement one day?

Since the original reporter did not find this worthwile to pursue, and nobody else has taken up the challenge in the past year, I suggest to set this to 'wontfix'. Feel free to re-open.
